A vision board is more than a collage of pictures, words, dreams, and affirmations. It is a visual reminder of the future we hope to build and the goals we desire to pursue. When we regularly see our vision, it can inspire us to move from dreaming to doing.

But for a believer, there is a deeper question: Is this simply something I want, or is it something God is leading me toward?

Much of my life was shaped by pictures I carried in my heart before I saw them become reality. I imagined children learning, a school serving villages, teachers making a difference, and later, a new chapter of purpose beyond what I had already experienced. These pictures helped me keep moving when circumstances changed.

Sometimes, what we repeatedly see with the eyes of faith becomes what we courageously pursue.

Habakkuk 2:2 says, “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.” Writing our vision gives it clarity and direction. A vision board can become a practical reminder to pray, plan, act, and persevere.

What Should Go on Your Vision Board?

Your board can include your goals, dreams, values, relationships, places you hope to visit, skills you want to develop, people you want to serve, or changes you desire to make in your life.

Before putting anything on your board, ask yourself:

What has God placed in my heart that I have not yet pursued?

What would I attempt if I truly believed God was with me?

What kind of person do I want to become—not merely what do I want to possess?

Are my dreams driven by purpose or by comparison?

Is my vision big enough to stretch my faith?

What small step can I take today toward the future I am praying for?

Make Your Vision Clear

Be specific and clear about what you want to accomplish. At the same time, be positive and realistic. Acknowledge the difficulties rather than pretending they will not exist.

A vision that is too small may not inspire you, while a vision built on fear, pride, comparison, or the desire to impress others may eventually discourage you.

Most importantly, surrender your vision to God.

Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Your vision board should never replace prayer. Instead, let it become a prayer board, a place where your dreams meet God’s direction. Look at it regularly, pray over it, evaluate your progress, and remain willing to let God redirect you.

Before You Create Your Board…

Pause and ask:

What do I see when I look at my future?

What does God see?

Am I willing to trust Him even when His plan looks different from mine?

Your vision may begin as a picture in your heart, but with faith, prayer, wise planning, perseverance, and God’s grace, that picture can become a purposeful journey.

Dream with faith. Write it with clarity. Pray over it. Work toward it. And leave room for God to do something greater than you imagined.
