In Your Hearing-God’s Miraculous Faithfulness

Scripture Focus:

“The children born during your bereavement will yet say in your hearing, ‘This place is too small for us; give us more space to live in.’ Then you will say in your heart, ‘Who bore me these? I was bereaved and barren; I was exiled and rejected. Who brought these up? I was left all alone, but these—where have they come from?’” — Isaiah 49:20–21

The Heavy Silence of Waiting

Between 1983 and 1987, my world was defined by a painful, heavy silence. I was trapped in a wilderness of waiting that felt entirely hopeless, enduring the profound heartbreak of miscarriages and the aching grief of barrenness. Like Zion in the scriptures, my soul felt “bereaved and barren, exiled and rejected, left all alone.” In those dark seasons, the enemy whispers that the silence is permanent. But our God is a restorer, and He always holds the final word.

The Inward Laugh of Faith

In 1986, right in the thick of that quiet isolation, the Holy Spirit directed my eyes to Isaiah 49. As I read verse 20, the phrase “in your hearing” leaped off the page and pierced my heart. Surrounded by the reality of an empty nursery, a strange and holy thing happened: I began to laugh within. It was not a laugh of skepticism, but the joyful, miraculous laughter of Sarah. My spirit caught a glimpse of God’s future timeline. In a home that was completely silent, God was giving me a literal promise. He was assuring me that I would live to hear the sweet, chaotic noise of my own children complaining that they were running out of room.

Prophecy Becomes Reality

Our God is a promise-keeper down to the very letter. He faithfully shattered that four-year wilderness and miraculously filled my empty arms with three beautiful blessings: Angelina, Adlien, and Joshua.

Fast forward to the year 1992. We were living thousands of miles away across the globe in the Middle East. One afternoon in our home in Abu Dhabi, the three children God had promised me were running around, playing, and searching for their own territory. Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted as I listened to them look for their own space. Right before my eyes, Angelina, Adlien, and Joshua spoke the exact words of the ancient prophecy: “Give me more space! This place is too small for us.”

My breath was taken away. The very phrase I had laughed about in secret back in 1986 was now echoing through the halls of our home in Abu Dhabi. God had spanned continents and bypassed human impossibility to fulfill His word exactly as He said He would.

Reflection & Prayer

Whenever I look at my family today, I stand in awe of verse 21, asking: “but these, where have they come from?” My children are living testaments that the God who sees us in our darkest, most hopeless seasons is the same God who shatters our silence with laughter and fills our homes with abundant life.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are mindful of us in our seasons of barrenness and grief. Thank You for the holy laughter of faith that looks past our current pain and anchors deep into Your promises. You are the God who fills empty spaces and turns mourning into dancing. May my story forever declare Your absolute power and perfect faithfulness. Amen.
