The Place of Surrender: When God Becomes Enough

Series: Still Unfinished – God’s Work on the Canvas of My Life

There comes a point in every believer’s journey when strength is no longer enough, answers are no longer available, and control must be released, especially in the season and time we come to the closure of the year 2025.That moment is called surrender—and it is one of the hardest yet holiest places a child of God can stand.

My life has been shaped through countless seasons that forced me to surrender—not by choice, but by necessity. There were years when I tried to carry burdens God never meant for me to bear. I believed that if I prayed harder, worked more, or held everything together, life would work the way I hoped. But instead, I often found myself exhausted, disappointed, and spiritually depleted.

Psalm 46:10 says,
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Stillness is not inactivity—it is trust. It is laying down what we cannot control and acknowledging God as the One who holds our future.

One of the greatest lessons I learned came during a season when everything seemed to collapse at once. Financial pressure tightened like ropes around my chest. The ministry felt heavy. My relationships were strained by misunderstandings and emotional fatigue. I felt responsible for everyone, yet unable to help myself. I remember kneeling on the floor and whispering through tears,
“Lord, I surrender. I cannot carry this anymore.”

At that moment, I expected God to fix everything immediately. Instead, He changed me.

Surrender did not remove the storm—but it anchored my soul.
It realigned my heart from striving to depending.
It reminded me that God is not asking me to be strong—only to trust Him.

Now, when I am walking through the valley of losing my husband David, surrender took on a new meaning. It was no longer an act—it became oxygen. I could no longer rely on my strength, my plans, or even the comfort of his presence. I had to lean entirely on God’s promise in Isaiah 41:10:
“Do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Surrender is not giving up. It is giving God permission to lead.

It has taught me life values I hold dearly now:

Letting go is sometimes the pathway to peace.

Strength is not the absence of weakness but dependence on God.

God’s timing is wiser than our urgency.

The greatest victories are born out of yielded hearts.

Looking back, every surrendered moment became a turning point that led to unexpected blessings, divine opportunities, and inner healing I could never have produced through striving. Today, I stand not because I held on—but because God held me.

If you are holding something tightly today, I encourage you:
Open your hands.
Release your heart.
Let God be God.He is enough.

🕊 Reflection Questions

What are you trying to control that God is asking you to surrender?

How might surrender change your situation—or change you?

What does trusting God look like in this season of your life?

🙏 Prayer

Lord, teach me the power of surrender. Help me release every burden I was never meant to carry. Replace striving with peace, fear with faith, and control with trust. Be the strength that holds me and the grace that guides me. I surrender all to You. Amen.
