Still Unfinished – God’s Work on the Canvas of Faith
There are journeys we choose, and there are journeys God chooses for us. Leaving the familiar and stepping into a foreign land is one of the hardest leaps of faith a person can make. The call to move—to uproot from everything known—felt like stepping out onto waters where I could not see the bottom. It wasn’t excitement that filled my heart, but trembling.
I still remember packing our suitcases in Abu Dhabi in the year 2001 October—the place that became our first home after we were newlywed. It was where our three children were born and grew into their teenage years. As I folded each piece of clothing and tucked memories into luggage, silent tears slid down my face. I tried to stay strong for my children, but inside, my heart shook with fear. Every memory felt heavier than the last, and every goodbye felt painfully permanent. I wasn’t just leaving a place—I was leaving a season, a comfort zone, and pieces of my identity.
Yet even in the uncertainty, there was a quiet whisper in my spirit: “Trust Me. I am already ahead of you.” And step by step, with tear-stained faith, we moved forward—believing that the God who called us would also carry us.
The unknown stretched before us like a wilderness. A strange land. A strange culture. A strange future. There were nights when loneliness pressed down like a weight on my chest and I asked, “Lord, did I hear You right? Did we make a mistake? Will we survive here?” There were days when doors refused to open, when disappointment stung, and when discouragement whispered, “Go back.”
But God was writing a story bigger than I understood.
During those moments, one scripture became my anchor:
“Go from your country… to the land I will show you.
I will bless you… and you will be a blessing.” — Genesis 12:1-2
Abraham did not know where he was going—only who was leading him. That became my own journey.
In those early years, life felt almost primitive. We arrived with very little—no electricity, no running water, uncertain finances, and only a few connections. Yet in that hidden season, God revealed Himself again as El-Roi—the God who sees. There were days when we had only enough for that moment, yet not once did we lack. Provision arrived through unexpected people and unimaginable ways. From unfamiliar soil, God grew friendships that later felt like family.
Immigration humbled me. It refined me. It taught me that real security is never rooted in geography, language, or finances—but in God alone.
Years later, ministry opportunities unfolded in ways beyond anything we dreamed. The seeds planted in tears grew into a harvest of testimonies. God turned isolation into influence, wilderness into worship, and displacement into destiny.
Even now, as life shifts again—after the painful goodbye when David stepped into glory last December 2024—God continues to lead me into new chapters only His hand can write.
Faith begins where certainty ends.
And the unknown?
It is the birthplace of miracles.
Reflection Questions
- What unfamiliar step is God asking you to take today?
- Where has fear or comfort stopped you from obeying God’s leading?
Prayer
Lord, give me courage to walk into unfamiliar places with confidence in Your voice. Help me to trust Your timing, Your leading, and Your provision. Turn every uncertainty into testimony and make my life a blessing wherever You plant me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
