Finger Prayers (02)  God enabled David’s fingers even in war-like situations

Psalm 144:1 – “Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.” (NIV) Battle is waring. We have a battle as long as we live on this planet – it’s either within ourselves or around us or against us. “

A battle is an occurrence of combat in warfare between opposing military units of any number or size, action, attack, bloodshed, campaign, clash, combat, conflict, encounter, fighting, hostility, skirmish, strife, struggle, war, warfare, contest, controversy, a struggle to stay alive.

A battle is a violent fight between groups of people, especially one between military forces during a war.

It comes in many different forms. In order to prevail over this battle, we need to have the ‘Armour’ around us. We see David is praying to train his fingers for battle so as to resist the army that is rising against him.

David is saying that  he probably did not come with the sword and spear, but God enabled his fingers even in war-like situations. Another facet of this verse is using some weapons without enough training. It is like danger in both spiritual realms and physical as an untrained force, injury occurs to the man who possesses it and even a danger to those around.

He uses the phrase as ‘trains’ my hand for war which is in continuous tense that tells about things that happen continually in the present, like every day, every week, or every month. So we also need to train ourselves in this battle in the spiritual realm. This shows the reality about how much more than a guitarist, we need to train our fingers for war.

In order to be both defensive and be offensive, we need to take a stand. It’s very important we know the enemy very well in order to fight, so for this we need to ‘carve’ out the time and we deal with the time that is available to us. . One crucial aspect we discovered on this journey is the importance of carving out time for prayer. We recognized the need to deal with the time available to us, even during what we call ‘dead times.’ These are moments when it seems we cannot actively engage in anything, akin to waiting for a bucket to fill up in the village. In the modern age, where life moves at a rapid pace, dead times may take various forms:Commute Time, Queueing Up,Technology Downtime,Virtual Meetings,

David, a prominent figure in the Bible, wrote the above Psalm 144, praising the Lord for training his hands and fingers for battle. David recognized that he was in a constant battle against the forces of evil, and he needed to be equipped and prepared to face them. In the same way, we too are in a spiritual battle, and we need to be prepared to face the challenges that come our way.
