The Impact of Banners: Passing on Blessings to Our Children
Throughout history, banners have been powerful tools for conveying messages and symbols. They are highly customizable and can effectively communicate ideas, adapting to the urgency of the situation. Similarly, in the Bible, banners were used to positively affirm blessings and prophecies. When it comes to our children, we have the unique opportunity to be generous with our words, just as our forefathers blessed their children. One significant example is the twelve sons of Jacob, each blessed uniquely according to their temperaments and experiences. They are now considered the twelve pillars in Heaven!
While we can’t predict the full extent of our children’s future, we share a special connection with them through our DNA. Passing on a spiritual blessing is a privilege we should embrace. The Bible teaches us that “the king’s heart is in the hands of God, and He changes it like a watercourse” (paraphrased). As parents, we have the power to influence the course of our children’s hearts, a privilege we should not take lightly. Even after we are gone, our pronouncement of blessings can continue to shape their destinies, as we see in the case of Jacob’s sons.
Banners adorned with words like ‘blessed,’ ‘prosperous,’ and ‘loved’ inspire our children to strive for their goals. Silence from us can sometimes be confusing for them. These banners become most effective during their challenging times, serving as prophetic encouragements that urge them to persevere on their path. These words are a sign of hope, spoken in faith, and they hold immeasurable value when displayed where our children can be constantly reminded of their blessings and their guiding principles. As parents, we must also maintain our role in their lives, offering reassurance and guidance.
Even in our absence, these banners will speak volumes. As mothers and fathers, we can start imparting this privilege as our children grow and reach milestones in their teenage years, marriageable age, and parenthood. This tradition can be carried on as a lasting legacy.
As an additional suggestion, involving the children in creating these banners can turn it into a memorable family art activity. Be creative and do not hesitate to make it as lavish as possible for each of your children. This is the ‘banner of love’ that your children will cherish and never forget!
