A distinctive view of ageing-
Whether our birthday cakes glow sweet with 16 candles or blaze with 78, we are experiencing the growing older process. If we can stop dealing with ‘am I ageing?’ We can begin to deal with the greatest issue- “How am I ageing?”
In the coming days, we must understand that we are so much more than our bodies. We are both body and soul. We are created to operate with two realities: inner spiritual and outer physical. It is a gift to know that is the truth, Even though our bodies are temporary. My feeling is that it is better to take the long hard look into the mirror of the future and not be caught off guard. We take a healthy step when we can admit to being participants in the process.
Growing older can be an overwhelming process. We deserve that dignity, we need the comfort from the recognition that our sense of loss, our struggle with the process is appropriate. We need models of courage not models of fear for challenging days to come. I care for my body because there is a quality in living..
I don’t want to live longer but I want to stay as healthy as possible so that I can praise Him more. Caring for my body did not restore my confidence about life. It did not replace my tears with laughter, nor did it open me to a deeper level of living.
Learning to take care of my soul was what healed my wounded self. Nobody’s work, be it cosmetics or health orientated, can heal the soul in an ageing woman’s life.
