Although we have authority over devils and demons we do not have power over our fellow men or their wills. The different parts of the armour symbolise certain spiritual attitudes which the believer must maintain. Wearing this armour the believer is protected and unhampered in their ministry of authority. All that needs to be conserved is that he keeps his armour bright and well secured.
First is the girdle of truth, which represents a clear understanding of God’s word like a soldier’s belt. It holds the rest of the armour in place. Second, there is the breastplate of righteousness that has a twofold application. It also indicates our active obedience to the word of God. Third, our feet are shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. This is a faithful ministry heralding the word of God, and the fourth is the shield that covers the whole body. This indicates our completed safety and refuge under the blood of Calvary, where no power of the enemy can penetrate.
Then is the helmet of salvation which is referred to as the hope of salvation in 1 Thes 5:8. This helmet is able to protect the head in these times of turning from the truth. Finally the word of God is to be used in an active service, praying always and praying in the spirit which gets the job done. You can be released from the oppression of the body. You can be released from the oppression of the mind; you can have authority over all unseen forces.
You can actually exercise authority over others as long as they are in your presence. I have heard ladies who do this when their husbands come home raising the devil. They rebuke it and claim authority over it. They do it quietly and calmly and change the whole situation. When folks in my family get excessively angry I just take authority and rebuke that anger in Jesus name.
It’s time that we are braced with this unimaginable armour the Bible talks about, winning over any battle that comes against us.
This concludes the extensive facets of a believer’s authority.
