Creative ability of words

Words have a power much greater than most of us can understand today. The Scriptures give us three basic facts about the power of our words:

1  Words can be uncontrollable:

Our emotions have more control over our word than our logic. Our words also can be motivated by our insecurity. Our words can be controlled by our imagination. Whatever we dwell upon, we will speak.

2. We have the ‘right’ to control our words:

The way to control your body and to avoid its misuse is to control your words. In James chapter 4,he likens the proper control of the tongue to the control of a horse. He uses the word “bridle”. In a well trained horse, a bridle can serve to either start, stop or change a horse’s direction when it is used to exert a small amount of pressure in the horse’s mouth. James uses the metaphor of a ship’s rudder in the fourth verse. Winds, currents and sails do not ultimately determine the direction that a sailing vessel will go.

If you do not bring your words under your control, your life will be lived as a stumbling horse, directionless and accomplishing very little. Yet a mature spiritual man will make sure that his words are positive and creative. He will not allow himself to be controlled by circumstance, but will control his circumstance because he knows where he is going. He will use his words wisely.

What are ‘words’ according to the Scripture? We believe in the word who is  Jesus Christ himself  according to John 1:1-14  “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the word was God.  “The Word became flesh and made its dwelling among us.” We also accept that the basic force that keeps everything in the physical world together is a Word from the Word of God.

So you can see that your ‘words’  mean more than what you say. As the saying goes, ‘a spoken word is a broken egg which cannot be put back by any means.’ Our words once spoken cannot be undone with multiplying words. What damage can be done this way.
