We can all agree that the Christian life is a battle against sin, the world and the devil. As Apostle Paul mentions in Ephesians 6:12 says,
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (NIV).”
So we see that if we turn down the inner noise, we can have an increased awareness of what matters the most. This practice cultivates mindfulness, recognition and appreciation of the present moment. We have seen in our previous posts the benefits in being silent with God in Quiet time. Today, we can see how we can make this time more exciting. Some ways are:
- Make a Date and a Closet Retreat – Having a corner of the house that is peaceful with no distractions can help to retreat to it whenever you want to pray. – Have a fixed time to meet with God.
- Write Out Scripture and start a Gratitude Journal – Journaling helps to record and look back on God’s answers to our prayers.
- Colour A Bible Verse – Some people like to be very creative and this technique helps to store God’s Word in our hearts.
- Pray A Psalm – Repeating the Psalm to ourselves can be very comforting as saying a prayer to God. Say for example, like Psalm 23, “The Lord is Annie’s Shepherd, Annie lacks nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures…”. You can use driving time wisely for this.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures…”
(Psalm 23 : 2)
Jesus’ example and the experience of older Christians become our authority for observing a daily quiet time with the Lord and his precious Word. We can also see some examples in the Old and New Testament.
As we delve positively in this discipline, we will certainly gain ground and find joy and productivity.
